Have you been thinking of making your car shiny and easy to take care of? Do you want to enjoy that “new car” look for a longer time and keep it well protected without frequently having to spend a fortune once in a few months? Do you want to make heads turn and enjoy the freedom of fearlessly feeling the wind in your hair as you drive down the open road on a sleek, shiny car? You might want to consider treating your vehicle with a ceramic coating. Are you caught up debating between various apprehensions such as – Will it preserve your car’s original paintwork? Is it worth the money?

If you are going through all this in your mind, here are a few crucial things you need to know if you’re considering Ceramic Coating – Definition? What are its benefits? Types and differences?

Before we delve deeper into the subject, it is imperative to note that not all ceramic coatings are equally created. It makes a lot of difference in how they are applied, which in turn reflects the performance.

WHAT IS CERAMIC COATING?

Ceramic coating is a thin glass layer that is applied across your car paint. It is chemical polymer that is externally applied to the vehicle, to protect from external damage of the paint. It creates an additional protective hydrophobic layer which is applied to all kinds of surfaces including paint, glass, wheels or plastic.

It comprises of 2 main components – Silica (glass) and Solvents. When the mixture of this product is applied to paint, if forms a thin glass layer that lasts for years (if applied precisely).

3 Main Steps of Ceramic Coating –

. Car Wash – this removes any dust particles that may be loosely bonded to the car paint.

. Decontaminate the Paint – This combines two processes – chemical (to loosen dust stuck to the paint) and mechanical (Clay – removal of tar and additional products bonded to the paint).

. Polishing – To get rid of stubborn particles that are still bonded to the car paint.

Once your car has the ceramic coating, here are the things are you are going to love and adore –

. The thin glass layer will make your car extra reflective and super shiny for a very long time.

. Ceramic coating also comes with self-cleaning properties, thanks to the high surface tension between the particles. This results in your car’s ability to resist tar, salt and dirt, far better than before. The best part is the fact that unlike wax, it can last for several years.

Advantages of Ceramic Coating

Protects from UV rays

The sun’s UV rays create a considerable damage to the car paint, resulting in a dull and faded look. If your car has that layer of ceramic coating, it prevents the car paint from getting oxidized and hence keeps it well protected. It also repels water and other chemical contaminants, thereby protecting the car from further damage and other chemicals.

Cematic coating vs Waxing

Even though waxing is another way to keep a car extra shiny, it is a temporary option and eventually wears off. Although both the processes are time taking, ceramic coating gives a better finish and a longer life.

Enhances Durability

The ultimate goal of getting a paint job done is to enhance the overall look of the car. But what good is it if the paint gets chipped off owing to physical hazards, scratches, etc. This can be overcome with ceramic coating as it adds an extra protective layer, making the car paint last longer.

Transforms the Overall Look

Have you ever seen a brand-new car and the way it reflects light during the day or night? While it is quite a sight to behold, the magnificent view is short lived without a Ceramic coating layer. Applying this will prolong the gorgeous look of the car and enhance the duration of the paint work.

Cost-Effective

Although ceramic coating seems expensive than waxing, it actually works out to be cost effective. This is because the car is effectively protected against any kind of damage which becomes expensive to fix. In comparison, the amount you spend to get a coating is far too less expensive than what is takes to fix damages.

At the end of the day, who wouldn’t like their car looking brand new and looking the same for a long period of time! The vehicle is effectively protected against dirt, mud and sun, and the best part is the fact that it can be easily cleaned.

Ceramic Coating vs Powder Coating vs Wax?

There are different methods of protecting cars, few of which include Powder coating, ceramic coating and car waxing. If you are a new car owner, here’s a quick comparison between the three –

. Powder coating changes the car’s color and is an aesthetic process. It can help achieve the exact desirable look, but is does not have definite performance benefits as such.

. Car wax, on the other hand, is easily obtainable and can be effortlessly applied. But it Iasts only for a short time and requires frequent re-application every few months and is susceptible to breakage.

. Ceramic coating, on the other hand, creates a bond with the paint of the car and hence does not wash away or break down, eliminating the need for repeated applications. It therefore emerges as clear winner as it is not only stronger, but also goes a long way in adding effectively to the beauty of the car paint plus a range of added benefits
